BRAELEA
PARK STUD
ADVICE ON ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION
Have
your veterinarian follicle test, conduct routine examination of reproductive
system and swab on the cycle prior to that intended for insemination.
Provide copy of swab certificate to Braelea Park Stud.
During
the following cycle follicle test every 48 hours until follicle/s approach
optimum size and condition. Carefully record all dates, condition, size,
and location of follicles.
As follicle/s reach optimum size, increase frequency of testing to at
least every 12 hours, and optimally every 6 or 8 hours.
Immediately
after insemination, administer oxytocin to promote follicle bursting.
Follicle
test 6 - 12 hours after insemination to ascertain follicle has burst or
appears about to burst. If not then re-inseminate now.
Flush mare 6 - 12 hours after last insemination to preclude any mild reactions,
and administer prostoglandin to promote expulsion of any irritants.
Inform Braelea Park Stud of precise dates and times of insemination and
any comments from veterinary surgeon.
Scan
for pregnancy at 16 - 18 days.
Pregnancy
test again at 40 -45 days and have vet certify result.
Provide copy of pregnancy certificate to Braelea Park. Stud.
This
advice is in addition to, and supplements the detailed instructions to
the inseminating veterinary surgeon for thawing and administration of
frozen and chilled semen which accompanies the semen. This advice is based
on practical experience of artificial insemination using frozen and chilled
semen in coverings at Braelea Park Stud.
