A Fond Farewell to our Boys

By now our two boys should be well settled in their new homes in far away countries. Forest Field Day, whom I'm sure you all know is down under with David Gregory in Diamond Creek, Australia and should be enjoying himself well into the stud season. Their season being the opposite end of the year to ours.

Sutton Sea Captain has safely arrived in Japan where he is going to stand at the Imperial Stud. We just hope he can understand Japanese!

We are delighted to have exported two horses in one year but we must admit it was rather unexpected. Bert had 'Fella' (Forest Field Day), bred by Mr. Keenleyside, for seven years and what a glorious seven years. A very easy stallion to handle who left behind him many beautiful offspring. He was always in the ribbons, keeping our display cabinet well filled but sadly never quite making the 'big one' in Yorkshire. Always being a very easy horse to do, he lived out all winter coming to a whistle and appearing at the gate the moment he heard 'Dad's' lorry drive into the yard. At least I shall have decent sheets now - his favourite pastime was to stretch out at least another foot over the fence to that lovely tempting clothesline. Oh what fun to catch hold of a flapping sheet which, if pulled hard, would end up in the field torn and muddy! Bert has really missed Fella and we hope he is happy with David and vice versa.

Sutton Sea Captain, home bred out of Ramblers Mermaid and by Forest Field Day was my baby. A lovely temperament combined with a very intelligent mind. He was very easy to train to voice and Bert more than once -accused me of making him into a circus horse! We only showed him twice - the first time as a scrawny yearling and then as a beautiful two-year-old. I really miss my morning and evening kisses which he used to leave his hard food in order to perform this trick.

We still have two boys who are at the moment still running together. One is Sutton Fieldfare, a full brother to Sutton Sea Captain and the other is Sutton Beau Geste - out of a mare by Forest Field Day and sired by Storth House -Temptation. At the moment we aren't sure which one we shall keep but we just hope to be happy and have some fun with whichever one we retain.

We hope to hear reports of Forest Field Day and Sutton Sea Captain and when we do we shall, through this magazine, pass the information on.
