A Note from an Aussie Woollyback

In October 1985 1 toured the UK, visiting numerous Cleveland Bay owners with a view to learning more about the breed. It was a great thrill to be able to attend the AGM and dinner and meet such a concentration of CB fans in the one place. Having an American and an Australian visitor at the one time must indicate the growing popularity of the Cleveland Bay.

During my travels the more I saw, learned and talked to your people realised just how much more there was to learn. My stay was far too short to see enough so I plan to return to the UK in early 1986.

Down here in the land of Oz we know very little about the Cleveland Bay. The tyranny of great distances combined with a small membership leads to very little communication and we have scant information and very little documentation about the Cleveland Bay. From the short time I spent in the UK and the information I was able to obtain I feel I know so much more about the intricacies of the different bloodlines and a far greater appreciation of what CB breeding is all about.

Recently my wife Celia and I were delighted to be able to entertain your President, Peter Price, together with his wife Jan and family. The Prices were able to take time out from their busy itinerary to visit our stud. We all enjoyed ourselves immensely at a traditional Aussie barbeque, preceded by a tour of the property and inspection of our pan-bred CBs and Trakehner stock.

It gave me great satisfaction to be able to reciprocate in a way for the many kindnesses and warm hospitality extended tome by your members while I was in the UK. To the many friends I made during my stay I intend my best wishes from down under and I hope to catch up with you again early in the new year.

David Gregory.
